How does a stepper motor work in a 3D printer?
Stepper motors can turn through "steps"—well-defined angles—under precise electronic control. Stepper motors provide a high level of accuracy because of the direct relationship between the rotation angle and the input pulse.
Stepper motors can stop and reverse direction with great precision, making them an excellent component for use in rapid prototyping applications. High end 3D printing machines with stepper motors create models that bear a very close resemblance to actual product prototypes in functionality as well as look and feel. 3D printers with stepper motors work by reading a 3D computer file and using it to make a series of cross-sectional slices in the product raw material.
